She turned from handing her coat to the
checkout and caught her reflection in a mirrored section of wall. She
just couldn't believe it was her. Her hair was twisted up and held in
place with the ruby combs Candy had insisted on,with a few loose
tendrils framing her face. The blood red velvet looked fabulous and
seemed to make her skin glow. She'd added a jeweled string belt that
rode the edge of skirt over her hips. She'd even hauled out the
necklace her father had given to her all those years ago. She'd never
worn it before, but somehow.. it's like it was meant to be worn
tonight. She realized the maitre'd and a couple of the waiters nearby
were staring at her and she hid a smile. She took a deep breath and
headed out into the restaurant proper.
Auron was sitting at a table near a window,
leaning on his arms, looking out at the street. He hadn't noticed Chaos
just yet. He was dressed in a simple, but sleek black suit, silk shirt
and tie. The jacket of the suit was hung over the back corner of his
chair.
The Maitre'd led the way through the dinning
room towards the back where she saw Auron seated. He looked very nice
in the silk shirt and tie. She couldn't ever remember seeing him silk
before...
He was playing with a piece of paper, folding
it into a crane, when he caught sight of the Maitre'd and Chaos's
reflection in the mirror and turned to look. His eyes traveled over
Chaos. For a moment, it might have been surprise, but there was a
slight smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He stood as they
approached and pulled Chaos' chair out.
She thanked the maitre'd and took her seat,
and watched Auron move back to his own chair. "So... "she said,
suddenly feeling awkward again. All her new found confidence from her
morning with Lex and her appointment with Candy seemed to vanish.
"I see your shopping trip with Lex this
morning paid off." Auron replied with a smile. "You look quiet
beautiful, Clarice." It was different then he remembered of her, but he
wasn't complaining. It suited her.
She felt herself blushing. "Thanks.. never
should've gone to Candy's. I always wind up buying something there."
She idly toyed with the ruby and diamond ring she'd chosen to wear.
"You look nice. That shirt really suits you...."
Auron chuckled. "Thank you...I had
it...on...'good' advice to wear it." He said, still chuckling. "But the
dress looks very good on you, Clarice. And the necklace," He gestured,
his head titled to the side. "Suits the dress, oddly."
She reached up and fingered the balck and
white diamond necklace. "I've had the necklace forev... for a long
time. I just never wore it before... wasn't all that comfortable with
who'd given it to me until now..."She glanced up grateful for the
interuption to the awkward feeling, as the waiter approached their
table.
"Good evening." The waiter said. "Would you care to see the wine menu before hand?"
Auron glanced at Chaos. "Would you care for some wine?" He asked her casually.
"Yes, please. Whatever you'd like... although I'd prefer red if you don't mind...."
Auron took the wine menu from the waiter and
looked it over. "The chardinaie, thank you." Auron handed back to the
menu and the waiter handed them the dinner menus, before moving off. "I
was informed this afternoon that you...were helping Lex out this
morning...is that right?" Auron asked casually.
Chaos took a deep breath and straightened up,
finally looking at Auron as she spoke. She smiled, " Yes. We went
shopping to find him some clothes. We talked a alot too." She felt
herself starting to blush and snorted. "He seemed to have brought out
the 'mothering' instinct in me." She looked at him, her voice suddenly
soft and somewhat sad. "He's a good kid Auron, but he's... he's so
lost."
Auron sighed. "He's always been a good
kid...quiet...He's more like his mother, where Saffron's more like I
am...And you're right, he is lost..." He sat back, surveying the paper
crane on the table and after a moment, it's wings started flapping. "He
and Saffron had an argument the other day. Neither apparently wanted me
to knwo about it, but they had a witness and she felt I should know
about it
"Employing spies, now?" she joked, watching
the paper crane move, suddenly flooded with memory of Auron making an
entire flock of paper birds and butterflies fly around Regan and
herself....
"Aiyla owes a bit of a debt to me, she feels
she has to pay it back...it's not entirely true. She was young when I
saved her life." Auron replied. The crane slowly took on a more
realistic illusion. "But appearently the argument threw Lex for a
loop..." He watched her, watching the crane.
Everything suddenly went blurry as she felt
her eyes fill and she reached out, grabbing the little paper bird and
crushing it, blinking away the sudden and unwelcome tears. She dropped
the crumble paper back onto the table and suddenly realized how absured
she'd just acted. "I'm sorry... memories..."
Auron inclined his head, saying softly. "No, I
shouldn't have...it didn't occure to me." He watched her a moment and
finished what he had been saying. "Lex just needs some one...he can
himself around right now.." He however didn't stop watching her.
She looked up. "Yeah I know. I try to be there
for him when I can.. let him know that.. well.. you know. And Faal will
be good for him too. He's a great guy and has a way of making you feel
at peace just by being with him...."
"I have a favor to ask...." she said, having a hard time looking at him for too long.
Auron looked at her, he chuckled softly, shaking his head. "Ask away."
"Every time you and I spend any time together...it's... let's not talk about.. before, okay?"
Auron gazed at her a moment, then nodded. "As you wish, Clarice." He said softly. "It's better to focus on the now anyway..."
She sighed in relief. "It's just too confusing
and painful.. and .. there's so much more to talk about anyway. I
mean... we've got... what? Thirty some odd ... forty years to catch up
on?"
"Something like, considering we've obviously
been on quiet interesting paths since...then." He said. "I'm sure you
have your questions...'Speciallyconcerning Saffron and Lex..." The
waiter approached with the ice bucket, wine and glasses, going about
the motions. Auron waved off the sample.
Chaos smiled her thanks toi the waiter,
receiving a blush in reply, and picked up her glass. "Yes.. I guess I
do." She chuckled softly. "As I'm sure you do.. after all, I wasn't
blue when we were together..." She stared into her glass, seeing her
reflection in the wine. " The boys mother... how did you meet? What was
she like?"
Auron shifted in his seat. "Her name was
Lillian. She was Irish, which is where I met her, in Ireland. I was..."
He ran a hand through his hair. "On a job, when I met her in a small
place outside of Dublin...I have my suspicions she was fae, but she
never told me. She had the same red hair Lex has, and quiet
intelligent. Witty, but shy."
"How soon after... "She shook her head. "Nevermind. Sounds a bit familair..."
"About...eight years. It was another two
before anything happened between her and I, Clarice...my...work at the
time was...demanding." He was looking out the window, but there was an
odd glint in his eyes at those words.
She gave a sad half smile. "Are you going to actually tell me what kind of work you were doing, or just hint at it all night."
"It was an odd sort of work, but enjoyable for
the most part. I ended up in Britian, which in turn led me to an old
friend, Masterson...after spending some time around him, and a
few...mishaps, he sat up a meeting between me and his employer...they
were an obscure branch of the MI-6, who specilized in investigating odd
cases for national security reasons..." He replied, looking back at
her.
" A lot of words yet still no answer... " she
shook her head quietly smiling. "and the boys? I know you rasied
Saffron for a bit, but not Lex..?"
Auron sat back in his chair, picking up his
glass and sipping. After a moment, he sighed and said. "Lillian and I
never had what you'd call a...solid relationship. I cared about her
yes...but I some how knew it wouldn't last to long. Saffron was two
when she vanished...I raised him until he was 8. I did not know
anything about Lex...until four years ago when Rowen introduced him to
me..."
"Must have been very difficult, raising
Saffron alone... What did you do .. after Saffron... damn i'm making
such a mess of this.." She said and took a swallow of wine, then
staring into the glass.
"I went into semi retirement to raise Saffron.
After he vanished...I went looking for answers. The trail was cold, but
I was never with out getting clues... Ask your questions Clarice, I'll
answer any of them.." Auron replied.
She sighed and set the glass down. "That's just it, Auron... I'm not sure what to ask. Maybe you should just.. tell me."
Auron sighed, and took a drink, before
gesturing to the menus. "Would you like to order, before I start
telling you?" He asked softly.
She looked up at his sigh." I'm sorry. I guess
this is a bad idea... I've never felt so awkward in my life. Perhaps we
should just... " She bit her lip as she stared up at the cieling,
trying to stop the watery feeling in her eyes from getting worse.
"Would you perfer to leave? We could talk some
where else?" He asked softly, hesitating to reach across the table and
take her hand.
She looked at him, blinking away the tears
that threatened to fall. She refused to cry tonight. She felt her hand
squeezing his, and she blinked more rapidly. "I don't think the place
matters much. I guess this is going to be hard no matter what." She
finally succeeded in forcing the tears back and took a deep breath,
forcing a smile. "So I gues we should go a head and order our food, and
then tell our life stories." She looked at her glass and then refilled
it. "I think we'll be needing a lot more of this before we're done..."
He chuckled, picking up the menu. "Then it's a
good thing I know how many bottles they have." He said with a slight
smile to her.
She turned her attention to her menu and tried
to focus on the food. The mere thought made her stomach, already in
knots, feel queasy. " I think perhaps just a salad..."
Auron sat down his menu, and signaled for the waitor. "Are you sure?" He asked her.
She laughed softly. "No... I not sure of
anything when I'm around you. Why don't you order for me. You used to
be good at that..."
Auron chuckled and glanced at the waiter when
he arrived. "I'll have the veal parmaisan and the lady will have the
cataloni floruntine." Auron said calmly.
The waiter took the order. "Excellent choices, can I get you anything else?" He asked them.
"Have another bottle of chardinaie handy." Auron said, he looked at Chaos, to see if she'd like anything esle.
Chaos waved off the waiter with a small smile
that grew as she looked at Auron, shaking her head slightly. "Still
have it.. after everything, ou still know what to order for me...
Always drove me nuts.."
Auron smiled, but that mischievious look
returned to his eyes. "I seem to remember there were a few things I did
that drove you nuts."
She found herself blushing again and threw her
napkin at him, laughing softly. "Stop that." She suddenly found herself
starting to relax a bit, and took another sip of wine before speaking.
"So.. how's have you been?"
"Recently...it's been...an interesting time. A
million questions from two intelligent young men who want to know
everything. I've become used to answering questions. Still...there are
things I need to attend to...so a break will have to come while
I...attend to those..."
Chaos titled her head coyly to one side. "More
insinuated secrets that you'll dance around?" She took another drink as
she watched him.
"A job, and a bit of travel, both professional
and personal. There are some things I can't even reveal to the boys,
Clarice...and I only ask that you believe when I do say it is for yours
and their protection that I not tell you." He gave her a sincere
expression but had the feeling she didn't believe him.
"Alright, fine. But answer me something... this job..were you doing it when we were married?"
Auron sat back, his actions were deliberate
and his voice was soft and calm. "Full time, no. I had an assosation
with them, however. I didn't work full time for them until after it
happened...when I thought i could use the job to find the answers I
needed..."
"Ah.. I see..." She said and finished off her
wine and refilled her glass. "Was this job something that came after
we'd met, or were you already in it bfore I came along?"
"Before." He answered directly. "You never
asked questions Clarice and what we had, never had any concern to them,
they were content to let us be..."
"And what if I had? What then? Tell me, Auron.. would this job have put Regan or myself in danger?"
Auron gave her a look. "Don't think for one
moment, Clarice that I would have EVER allowed you or Regan to be in
any danger. Ever!"
"Thank you. I don't mind you having secrets,
Auron. As long as they aren't dangerous to us. "she offered a small
smile, and began picking at her napkin, suddenly wishing she were any
where but here...
"There were certian things I refused to do for
them, when I was raising Saffron. There were things I refused them when
we were together..." Auron told her. "They didn't want to lose my
employment..."
Chaos tried to smile but knew she failed
utterly. She also realized that her worrying at the napkin had caused
it to fray. She heard an odd tapping noise and it took a moment to
realize it was her foot. She slammed her foot down flat and shifted in
her chair. "How much longer do you think it'll be before the food gets
here?"
Auron regarded her with a sigh. he glanced
toward the kitchen, wishing he had an answer for her. "Shall I move a
long a bit?" He asked softly. "Or stop altogether?"
Chaos sighed, 'I'm sorry Auron. I'm just . no
good at the whole ' emotion' thing. I get little fits of it every now
and then, like today with Lex.. but I really don't 'talk' like this
very often. I don't mean to be difficult. Please. don't mind me...
continue."
Auron shifted in his seat. "After what
happened...happened, I went to work for them full time. I mostly did
investigations for them. I've done other things...I was acting as a
body guard, escorting a boy from Coppenhagen to Welse, when I met
Lillian in Ireland."
"Did you fall in love with her right away? How long were you married before Saffron was born?"
Auron had been waiting for these questions. He
shook his head with the slighest of smiles. "I didn't marry her for a
year and a half after meeting her. Understand Clarice...there was
always a feeling that it wasn't supposed to be."
" Oh I'm familair with the feeling..." she said, sharing the small smile. "Please.. go on."
"As I said, she never really said if she was
fae or not...but I suspect it. Especially seeing Lex. But
we...attempted to make a life in Ireland, with my occassional
absences...But after Saffron was born...things started...going
cold...She would say it was wander lust..." Auron shook his head
slightly. "I woke up one morning, to find her gone...Saffron was two."
Chaos reached out and placed her hand on his
where it lay on the table. "I'm sorry, Auron." A movement to the side
catch her eye and the waiter appeared with their dishes. She removed
her hand to make room for him to set the dishes down. Auron waited
until the waiter had departed, before saying. "To be honest Clarice, I
had expected it to happen, but it was Saffron that concerned me. And as
I said, I was never aware of Lex. Had I been...I imagine I would have
searched much hard then I did...I regret that..."
"You couldn't have known. Ypu did what you
thought was best..... you always have.So... after Saffron was gone...
what did you do with your life?"
"I disappeared, from the jobs' radar, I
searched for traces of Saffron, but LiVed was good at covering his
tracks. I did a lot of mercaniery work, but only if it could provide
information. That's how I met Aiyla nine years ago, and how I ended up
in this city, mentoring Rowen..."
Chaos played with the fod on her plate as she
thought of her next question. " And Rowen... what about him? How did
you come to be his metor..?"
"I knew his father...we worked several...jobs
together. He died, when Rowen was a toddler, but still, I knew who he
was. Rowen...at that time was an intelligent young man, but he lacked
in elemental control, he asked for some help in that. I did. But Rowen
always....had some issues. It was Abandon, you see who had killed his
family, so I often wonder if his...befriend of Lex hadn't been with the
ope of getting some kind of revenge..."
" And now you've found your sons and me... now
what? Your search is over." She still hadn't eaten anything, but she
had made quite a mess of her food...
Auron watched her. He hadn't even touched his. "Not exactly Clarice. There's one person I love to find..." He answered softly.
She looked up at him suddenly. "I asked my
father about her. I remember Shada saying she was going to take Regan
to him.... " she dropped her gaze to her plate again. " He claims she
left years ago and hasn't had word from her since. He would'nt tell me
anymore."
"There are other ways to find her." Auron answered simply.
"If she's still alive and wants to be found."
She said, finally setting her fork down. "So what are your plans now?
Will you return to 'full time ' work?"
"Probably not, but as I said, I do have...some
business to take care of. And there's something I promised to do for a
friend...It requires going back to France..."
" And what about Lex and Saffron, and... will
you 'keep in touch' while you're away? How long will you be gone, do
you know? " She shifted in her chair, crossing her legs. " It's kinda
of bad time to leave, just when you're starting to rebuild your
relationship with the boys.."
"Or is it that you don't want me to leave?" He asked softly, looking at her.
She gave a soft quick sad smile and laugh, not
looking at him. "I already told you...I'm not sure what I want when I'm
around you." She glanced down at her plate and realized that she would
probably be sick if she ate anything. "I guess I'm not really hungry
after all...."
"I don't expect to be gone too long. And I
will keep in touch...if you'd like me to. As for the boys...well..
Saffron has his affairs and Lex...has his..." Auron looked slightly
troubled, then asked her. "Would you like to go some where else,
Clarice, we do anything you like..."
She looked over at his plate and noticed that
he hadn't eaten anything either. "If you don't mind. I'm sorry." She
took a deep breath, feeling tears building again and forcing them back
down. "Perhaps some place away from everyone... "
Auron motioned for the waiter, removing his wallet and taking out a credit card. "Anywhere in particular?" He asked her.
She shook her head. "No.. Just ... away."
The waiter approached with the bill. Once Auron had paid, he stood, offering his hand to Chaos. "We can walk if you like..."
Chaos slipped her hand in his and stood. "
Yes. Walking would be good, thank you. As long as you won't be too
cold. I don't mind the cold anymore, but I know I'm the rare
exception..."
"The cold won't bother me that much." He
replied, shrugging on the suit jacket and escorting her back through
the restaurant to the main door, where he helped heri nto her coat.
They walked across the street towards the
park. Chaos realized she was ruining her shoes but didn't care. She had
other shoes... They found where the path had been cleared of snow and
followed it. " I met Faal a few weeks after.. what happened.. "We went
to Scotland. Briefly to a place he had there, then on to where we got a
place not too far from mum. He believed he could find a way to reverse
my being blue.. "
"And how did the blue happen to begin with?" Auron asked softly, a touch amused.
She chuckled. "I met Faal." She laughed
softly, her hands in her pockets. "Damn faeries apparently make me
change. Took a bit to figure that out. Took A couple friends of his and
another change, actually ..."
"Then Estehl wasn't exagerating over the wings..." Auron chuckled, shaking his head. "Hes been a bit sorry for that one.."
"Should be.. ruined my favorite jacket...."
she said, then smiled to show she wasn't completely serious. "Anyways,
Faals' one friend, Brendan, a half demon like me, taught me how to
change back and forth. We became good friends and I annoyed him until
he started to teach me how to fight, and then to train me to be a
bounty hunter like him..."
"He must have trained you very well." Auron said with a nod of approval. "Go on."
She laughed softly. "We were partners for
quite a while before he decided he needed a change... and insisted on
finding me a new partner.. despite my protests. And so I wound up with
one Jaguar Rockefeller. You might have heard of us. We worked together,
terrorizing the vampire and demon community for quite a while before
things went into legal hell..."
"I believe I've heard the name, yes..." Auron said with a nod.
"That's when I met the MacDonnell boys and Jag
and I went our seperate ways... and I wound up with Chaos
Incorporated." She pulled her hands out of her pockets and reached out
to tap snow off branches as they passed by. "That's it in a nutshell.
Anything you'd like clarified or expanded upon?"
Auron shook his head, as they walked, his
hands in his pockets. "Not nessicerrily." He stopped after a moment and
looked at her. "Clarice, I know you're not the same woman I married,
but that really hasn't changed the fact that I do care about you even
now. All I'm saying is I'd like a chance to...see if we don't...still
have something of what we used to..." He said softly, but seriously.
She stopped and turned to face him. She gave a
sad smile and reached out to stroke his cheek, feeling the softness of
the beard. "I know. I know and I understand and .. I already know that
answer. You do to. The question should be, can we make anything of
it... and should we?"
"It's never hurts to try, Clarice." He answered, reaching up and touching her hand.
"Yes it can, Auron. It can hurt quite alot."
She tried to blink away the tears again , but this time failed and felt
them run down her cheeks. She tried to ignore them and suddnely leaned
against him, laying her face against the rough wool of his coat. " I'm
afraid of hurting all over again, Auron...."
Auron wrapped his arms protectively around
her, stroking her hair with one hand. "Ah, mon petit l'un a aime..." He
said softly with a sigh. He tipped her chin up ward, looking her in the
eye. "I'd never do anything to hurt you, Clarice...You're the only
woman who's ever meant anything to me, enough to be willing to die for
you..."
She closed her eyes and just let him hold her
for a few moments, relishing the feeling of being loved. finally
finding her voice she spoke softly, her voice partially muffled by his
coat. " I didnt mean that you would hurt me, Auron.. I know you never
would... it's just... what if things don't work, or if they do but
something happens again...."
"Are you afraid of taking chances, Clarice? I
thought that now...you didn't mind taking chances to much..." He
replied softly, he tightened his arms a bit more. "Mon amour, I don't
want to force you into anything, if you don't want to try between
us...I'll understand, but I can't lie and say it wont hurt to hear you
say that...I still love you, Clarice...and I think I always will."
Chaos suddenly bust out laughing and pulled
away slightly. "That's just it. I'm not afraid of taking chances.. I do
it a hundred times a day! For fun I do insane things..." she wiped away
the tears on her cheeks with the back on her hand. " It's just with
you. When we were together, I was too, shy and reserved most of the
time... and now I'm not anymore... except when I'm around you. And it's
really irritating ..." She looked up at the trees above them as she
took a deep breath, trying to get her thoughts together. "God this is
soo stupid. I know what I feel for you and I know what you feel for me,
and I do want to see what.... oh fuck it!" she said, pulling his head
down and kissing him.
Auron was slightly surprised, but that didn't
last long, and he kissed her back, deeply, holding her by the waist.
Relucantly he pulled back, and looked at her bemused. "Clarice, my
dearest heart...I loved you then, and I love you now...and just because
you're the infamous Lady Chaos doesn't change it. In fact...I quiet
love this outgoing side of you I've seen since we've reuntied... It
only shows you've grown into a gorgeous and strong woman...something I
knew you had in you, even then..."
Chaos smirked and wrapped her arms around his
neck. " There's a reason I hate talking too much..." She said, looking
up into his eyes. "Slows crap down." She said and pulled him into
another kiss, the fingers of one hand winding through his hair. She
just let go, thriving on the feelings he stirred in her. She'd had
lovers over the years, but none had ever come close to making her feel
the way she did when she was with Auron...
Auron slid his fingers into her hair, kissing
her deeply in return, his other arm around her waist. The things she
was doing to him. Just being around her, at this moment was so
intoxicating, he wasn't sure if he could make it. The entire rest of
the world just seemed to melt away. He knew then, he'd cared about the
boys' mother, but it had always been Chaos he'd loved so much. And he
had a sneaking suspecion that he'd been set up to meet Lillian all
those years ago.
Chaos finally broke the kiss, but remained in his arms, her face inches away from his. "Still wanna go any where I do?"
"Mon petit l'un, I'd go anywhere you'd want to forever." Auron replied with a grin, stroking her cheek.
She stepped back, a mischievious look in her
eyes. "Then How about we go back to my place... Devin's at Charli's so
we'd be alone..." She ran a finger over his lips, watching him suddenly
close his eyes, then she pulled him back into another kiss, slipping
his hands inside her coat.
He chuckled behind the kiss, kissing her
softly. He slid his hand around her waist, and to her back. "Not to
mention it'd be much warmer..." He said slyly. "And have I mentioned
how absolutely stunning you look tonight, bel amant?" He asked softly.
Chaos smiled. "I don't remember.. I was too
busy thinking how good you looked." She kissed him again and then took
his hand pulling him back towards the parking lot. " I should worn
you... my umm...'sleeping attire.. has.. changed dramatically as
well... "
"Those knee length fannel nightgowns you wore,
never suited you in the first place, Clarice." Auron replied with a
chuckle and mischievious look. "I had more fun taking them OFF of
you..." He whispered in her ear.
She laughed softly, slipping her arm around
his waist as they walked. "I think I'll leave my car here and ride with
you... I'll send one of the boys over tomorrow for it... got a problem
with that?"
She smiled as she slipped into the car,
pulling her coat and dress out of the way before he shut the door. She
watched him jog lightly around to his own door and climb in. "You know
where we're staying for now?"
"Ah yes...Lex informed me...How is the search
for a new place?" He asked as he started the car. "It was...quiet
shocking when the other place blew... but at least no one was hurt."
Chaos sighed, leaning her head back against
the seat and gave him a look. "Yeah. I'm glad i sent them out. Faal
told me he's got a few locations he's scouting for us. He's being
rather cocky about it.. he didn't like the whole warehouse idea
anyhow..." She reached over and tucked a hand behind him and leaned her
head on his shoulder as he drove.
Auron turned a corner, one hand resting on her
knee. "I'm sure he's found some excellent locations...About Faal...I
have to ask, Clarice...do you think it's a good idea for him and Lex
to...well you know..."Auron shook his head slightly.
Chaos smiled, tilting her head to look up at
him. " I do. I can't explain it, Auron. You'd have to know him, but..
there's just something about Faal. I've known others that knew him and
they weren't effected by him, so it's not 'him'... "she gave a chuckle.
"Never mind, I'm not making any sense, and I don't want to think enough
to try. "I think they'll be very good for each other, Auron. I really
do. I never would've given Faal my blessing otherwise."
Auron was thoughtful, then nodded. "I've no
qualms about Lex being...bi. His choice of course. But being my
youngest son, I can't help but be protective. Lord only knows
if...things hadn't happened, I'm awfully sure Regan would have been
forbidden to date until she was 30..." He had to chuckle.
Chaos made a soft noise. "Oh puhlease. Regan
had you wrapped around her little finger, and you know it. You could
never tell her no about anything she really wanted."
"You both had me wrapped around your little
fingers...but I was still her father...and lord knows how protective I
would have been. You should have seen Saffron when he was a boy...I
didn't let him from under my gaze...and if he HAD to play with the
other kids...well.." Auron chuckled again, shaking his head. "I hate to
image how it would have been with Lex..."
"He would have been loved. Just as he is now. " She kissed his cheek, seeing her building just ahead.
"It's a long time in the wait for that boy..."
Auron sighed. "I regret that, Clarice...not knowing Lillian had had
him...if I'd known...I just hope he forgives me..." He took her hand,
bringing it to his lips, kissing it.
" I think it was planned that way, Auron. I
think Honnor knew.. you heard him that day. The whole thing was
probably a set up...you never stood a chance.. neither did the boys...."
Auron sighed as he pulled into a parking
place. "The problem is, Clarice...I don't think it's over...by a long
shot...Honnor escaped...and Estehl is right... there's more t' the
whole thing that just that...still...the boys were innocent, as was
Regan... I know now I was set up to meet Lillian...why is the question
now..."
They pulled into an empty spot and Auron shut
off the engine. She turned his face towards her and kissed him, smiling
coyly as she pulled back. "No.. the question NOW is... why are we still
sitting in the car talking...."
Auron was already opening is door, and he
grinned slightly. "Of course..." He kissed her teasingly, but got out,
going around and opening her door, offering a hand.
She slipped out of the car, then still holding
his hand, started to lead the way into the building. She stopped at the
front desk and asked for a spare key to her suite, and turned and
handed it to Auron. " Just incase..." she said, and pressed the call
button for the elevator.
Auron slid the key into his pocket, but other
wise slid an arm around Chaos' waist. The young man at the front desk
was staring at them, in surprise, Auron appeared much older then Chaos
and he was well aware of what the young man must have been thinking.
Chaos took advantage of the wait for the
elevator to undo her coat. The elevator, when it arrived, opened for an
elderly man and his dog, who exited without looking at them. The dog
growled. Chaos and Auron were chuckling as they stepped inside and shut
the door. "Alone at last.. and warm too." She said, slipping her arms
around his waist and pulling him against her. She ran a hand through
the grey in his hair and suddenly got that mischievious smirk on her
face again. "Any more grey hair i should know about, old man?"
Auron ran his fingers along her neck and
collar bone lightly, almost teasingly. He chuckled at her question and
kissed her playfully. "None where it matters, my dear..." He said, dark
eyes sparkling.
The door opened mid kiss as they were leaning
against it, and they stumbled, laughing. " Shh. . Nosey neighbors..
don't want them to complain. "
Auron caught her around the waist, but had to
laugh himself. "Let them complain..." His foot tripped on a corner of
the rug outside the elevator, but he still managed to hold on to her
and catch his balance quiet well.
"Yeah well.. "she giggled, and pulled him out
into the hall. "I'm the one who has to work with them on a daily
basis." She tugged on his hand, pulling him back to her side where she
wrapped her arms around him. " Mine's two doors thata way. "she tilted
her head to the left as she kissed him again. " number 404.."
Auron caught her lips, kissing her back as he
followed her down the hall. They'd only just reached her door when
another door behind them opened. Auron glanced over his shoulder to see
Eire standing in his door way, looking slightly drunk and a bit
baffled.
Chaos looked back as she unlocked her door,
and saw Eire. " Good night Eire." She said with a grin and shoced the
door open. Grabbing a hold of Auron she hauled him inside, laughing.
Eire stared at the door wide eyed as Auron
vanished with Chaos into the room, before he was out of his door and
heading down to Nate's banging on his door.
The third bang on the door brought the sound
of cursing form the other side, followed by the resounding click of a
gun being cocked. The door cracked open to reveal Aiyla in a satin
teddy with a gun pointed at his head. " You'd better have one FUCKING
amazing reason for disturbing us, E...."
