Matt smirked softly then kissed the bruise playfully, laughing
softly as it faded a bit faster. "Fuck.. thats just freaky.. I can't
watch.." he said and dropped the rest of the bandage to the floor.
"Looks like we're down to one jacket between us... Maybe we should raid
a clothing store... you're distracting me form the mission.."
"That would probably be a good idea...I don't like to take
zombies on half naked." Saffron replied with a smirk. He gave him a
look, looking him up and down with a bit more of a smirk. "And I'm not
the only one who's distracting." He moved one hand, letting his fingers
run over the ying yang tattoo, then the other on his stomach.
"Interesting tattoos."
Matt found himself biting back a contented sigh at the feeling
of Saffron’s fingers on his skin. “Hmm.. someone might almost think I
have a death fixation or something, hmm?” he asked with a soft smirk.
“I’m due for a new one I think… think an Angel of Death would look good
on here somewhere…”
Saffron smirked slightly raising his eyes to look at him,
letting his fingers linger on his stomach. "Oh I think the right kind
of..design would fit in." He said, before glancing at the window at the
sound of the zombies breaking something outside. He sighed and shook
his head.
Matt sighed wearily and pulled Saffron closer, one hand raising
to stroke his cheek. "Well..I suppose that's our cue to get moving..
the natives are getting restless... might be able to blame that on our
little..'power surge'.." he added with a smirk. "Last kiss for the
road?" he asked, his thumb brushing over Safron's bottom lip gently.
Saffron smirked slightly. "Lets hope our power surge didn't do
much damage." He said, the sound of what sounded like a few zombies
fighting with each other. He wrapped his arm around Matt's neck and
pulled him closer, kissing him.
Matt smirked softly as he returned the kiss, his arms wrapped
around the smaller man. The kiss ended with a sigh. "Damn... normally
i'm all for this shit.. but this time, I'd give anything for this place
to be zombie-less." he gave another sigh and reluctantly let go of
Saffron. He moved to the window and looked out. "So.. next stop..
shirts...now to find a store..."
Saffron rubbed his shoulder, rotating it a moment, before
moving over to the window as well, looking out. There were a few
zombies out side in the street mulling around aimlessly. "They act
dumb...but they're not..." He said softly watching them, before
glancing around.
He spotted a family dollar store down the street, cheap, close, but he wouldn't complain.
Matt was watching the zombies as well, a faint smirk on his
face. "No... well.. not all of them. Some of them seem to be
..'less'... I think they're older... maybe they're starting to break
down too much already..." he said softly then followed Safron's gaze.
"Oh.. lovely... shall we?"
Saffron frowned slightly. "If they're the older ones...the ones
that are less smart...and it's like you say, maybe breaking down, then
we'd just be able to wait for that to happen with the rest. No... what
if its' the other way around and it's the older ones that are smarter?"
Matt raised an eyebrow and turned to loo at him. "Well...
they're zombies. they're dead. They don't get smarter... they loose any
intelligence they have as they continue to decay...." he said then
sighed and crossed his arms. "Except they're not normal zombies...
fuck.. that's not good..."
"No, they're not...they said back at hte office it was a
virus...that's definitly going to complicate things." Saffron said,
leaning against the window frame a moment. He glanced down the street
again. "Well we can't stay in here forever, so we might as well make a
try at it."
Matt nodded slowly. "Yeah...just keep in touch, huh?" he said
with a smirk and took his hand, his knife already in the other one.
"And don't be shy to test your powers on them... Fuck.. i can still
feel them.. its weird... they feel really fucking weird.."
Saffron sighed, and slipped past him, pausing long enough to
kiss him quickly before heading toward the door near them. He summoned
one of his swords as well, his hand still in Matt's. "The sooner we get
to the satalite phone, the better."
Matt smirked softly, still on a high about the way things were
between them. "Let's see just what this power thing we've got going
here can do, huh?" he said playfully. "Shall we take it slow and see
what happens.. or just break and run for it?"
Saffron stopped at the door, letting go of his hand to place it
on the frame and considered a moment. His abilities were still on a
high level, one he'd never felt before and he had no idea what he could
do, on his own or especially with Matt there. "Maybe we should take it
slow..until we're noticed."
Matt smirked darkly and gave his knife a flip. "Yeah... fuck..
I feel so charged... like I could snap my fingers and drop them all...
think I probably could if they were just plain zombies.." he said
thoughtfully. "Fuck... just.. keep me away from cemetaries, man... last
time I felt so wired I raised a dozen by accident.. and that wasn't
even close to what I feel now..."
Saffron winced slightly, and glanced at him. "Well then lets
hope Dav's directions were wrong and the bunker isn't near the cemetary
like she said." he said, before looking back. "I don't know...the way
I'm feeling, I might be able to pull something I've only done once
before when I was at my angeriest...and that's pull their life from
them, over a distance..."
"Saff… babe... they're dead.. they don't have any life to pull.
Energy, yeah... actually.. who knows with these things... At least
anything I call up will be normal and I should be able to put back down
again. Hell.. might be able to use them against these buggers." he said
then slipped his hand over Saffron's back and gave his rear a soft
slap. "Come on.. let's get moving before we change our minds."
"Well they've got something close to life, or I wouldn't have
been able to dispatch the ones earlier..." He had a stray thought
wondering if the high he was on was strong enough to bring a person
back from the dead, whole, soul and all. It was always said a death
elemental could do that but it would kill them. He wasn't going to try
yet. With a shake of his head, he pushed the door open with a smirk and
slipped out side along the side walk, watching the zombies.
Matt gave his knife a final flip in his hand as he followed
Saffron, his senses tuned to the creatures surrounding them. This close
to Saffron.. or perhaps as an after effect of their kiss.. he could
feel the auras, both around them and around the creatures incredibly
strong.. he narrowed his gaze as he had a thought. "Hang on a sec..."
he said softly and, reaching out carefully he pulled on the aura's of
the closest creatures and used it to mask their own. Something drew
them and normally zombies didn't attack other zombies... of course,
they'd heard some sort of commotion earlier, so maybe it wouldn't work.
"I've masked our 'living' presence... they could still smell us or
something, but it might help..."
Saffron eyed the creatures. "Suppose we can hope." He said
softly before starting down the street, one hand gripping his sword in
a good grip, keeping his attention on the zombies. So far they hadn't
noticed them at all. They came to an alley and Saffron cast a glance
down it which was clear. He looked back as they crossed the alley. The
zombies were still mulling around, but so far hadn't taken notice. It
almost had Saffron a bit worried.
Matt felt a growing unease as they slipped past the creatures.
The strangeness of them and their auras were beginning to get on his
nerves. He could control them if nessecary, but it was harder then with
normal zombies and he felt... strange afterward. Almost like a bad
taste was left over... He shook his head slightly as he followed, doing
his best to clamp down on the power increase.
They made it to the next shop with out being spotted and
Saffron tested the door, which had to be locked. He rolled his eyes and
leaned against the door frame between the two doors a moment, before
flipping his sword over and driving the smaller blade into the glass
above lock. He cast a look at the zombies as he did that. If they
noticed the noise, they weren't moving their way. Saffron shoved the
door open and moved in.
Graves snorted, smirking softly as he followed him inside. "You
could've just asked.. I can pick just about any lock.. some take longer
then others, but at least there's not noise or broken glass.." he said,
his eyes sparkling in amusement. "Oh.. lovely... " he said in with a
snort as he looked over the store. "The almighty dollar at it's
'finest'... he said softly as he picked up a pen with a fuzzy ball that
bouncy as it moved. He snorted and dropped the pen on the counter.
"Shirts... gods.. the idea of this scares me.."
Saffron chuckled softly, as he moved further into the store,
and snatched up a candy bar as he moved further back towards where the
apparel was. He had to snicker at Graves last comment as he picked up
one shirt. "What, don't like cute kittens?" He asked, tossing a shirt
over his shoulder towards Graves, with a huge kitten with huge eyes on
the front.
Matt snorted and tossed the shirt at the nearest shelf. "fuck
no... cute eyed critters make me want to hurl... especially those
god-awful ones where the head and eyes are bigger then the body..
yeah.." he said, crossing his arms as Saffron held up another shirt.
"Like those..." he snorted and moved to help look. "Hey.. Batman ....
Batman rocks.. he's mine... as soon as I find my size.... " he said
smirking as he flipped through the shirts.
Saffron snickered, opening the candy bar as he browsed through
the shirts. He'd glance every so often at the windows to check on the
zombies. Breaking another piece of candy bar, he found a simple black
shirt with the anarchy symbol on it. Worked for him. He snatched one
and turned to the rack of jeans. Cheap, but at least wearable..
Matt grinned as he pulled a simple black tshirt with the batman
emblem on it.. it looked like the ones that had come out with the first
Michael Keaton version...He snorted as he shrugged out of his jacket
and pulled the shirt on. A bit snug, but it was the best he was going
to be able to do, by the looks of it. He spotted Saffron at the jeans,
then glanced down at his own. Aside form a bit of blood spatter and a
new hole in the ass end.. they were alright. He headed back to the
candy bars and grabbed a few to shove in his pockets before grabbing a
couple bottles of water as well.
Saffron managed to find a pair of jeans that could work. He
wasn't going to do this in the ruined brocade he was wearing now.
Setting the shirt and jeans aside on the rack, he leaned down to undo
his boots. He realized he was at least going to have to go back to his
car in the morning if possible and get his bag.
Matt was headed back to Saffron with the bottled water when he
spotted him bent over. He smirked and leaned back against a shelf.
"Nice ass." he said softly as he set the extra bottle aside and opened
his to take a drink. "Shall I be a gentleman and turn around?"
"Well I could have said the same earlier." Saffron replied with
a smirk, before straightening up and toeing off his boots, he glanced
over his shoulder at him, still smirking. "Are you going to be a
gentleman and turn around?" He asked, eyeing him while undoing his
pants.
Matt shrugged. "I don;t know... not much of a gentleman..
hell.. I don't think i've ever done anything gentlemanly in my life,
come to think of it." his eyes sparkled as he smirked at him, raising
his bottle for another drink. "Would you like me to turn around? I'm
rather enjoying the show.."
Saffron gave a soft laugh, glancing over his shoulder at him,
before sliding the pants down, the black silk boxers clearly visable.
He kicked off the pants and grabbed the jeans, tearing the tags off. "I
should have grabbed my bag before hitting the road."
Matt smirked and shook his head. "Damn ... are those silk? Fuck
man.. don't you have any regular clothing? Is everything fancy with
you?"he laughed softly, shaking his head as he finished off the water
and recapped the bottle before chucking it across the store. "And
yeah... probably shouldve.. but it would've been left in my car, most
likely.. or back at the office.. either way, you still wouldn't have it
here.."
"Yes, I have regular clothes. I was at a friend's place before
I hit theroad...well it's difficult to explain but she's got a dress
code." He said with a smirk before starting to slip the jeans on. They
were going to be something of a tight fit, but at least they'd work.
"But yeah, I do tend to wear a lot of fancy things too."
Matt just shook his head slowly. "And boxers... fuck.. I didn't
think people actually still wore those things... I tried once.. fuckin'
uncomfortable... don't know how you can do it.." he said, then raised
one eyebrow as he noted how tight the jeans were. "Better practise
moving in those... wouldn't do to be out fighting monsters and rip the
ass out of them..." he added with a grin.
"Oh they'll be tight, but not too tight. I've worn worse."
Saffron said with a slight smirk, before doing the jeans up. "New jeans
are always stiff. And yeah, well, I can't wear anything but
boxers...dare I ask about you?" He asked, bending back down to pull on
his boots.
Matt smirked a bit bigger. "Bikinis. " he chuckled softly. Got
some of those boxer briefs too.. not bad.. bit too much material
though.., and they feel really fucking weird having that extra material
on my legs.. and how the fuck did we start this conversation?" he asked
with a chuckle. He watched Saffron finish retying his boots and tossed
him the bottle of water. "Come on... lets go find that radio."
Saffron caught the water and unscrewed the cap. "I have no
idea." He said with a smirk taking a drink, before recaping it and
grabbing the t-shirt to pull it on. "In a minute, I wanna take a look
around here, see if there isn't anything we can use on the way
there..." He said, grabbing the water again and moving further into the
store. "Do a little shopping..."
Matt snorted and pulled one of the candy bars from his pocket,
ripping it open. "Lovely... well.. at least we're not wasting money on
this crap.. just if you're going for anything even remotely
electrical.. don't expect it to actually work... at least not without
dying quickly... or causing a fire.."
Saffron paused, snatching a cheap duffle bag and headed into
the house hold item isles, he paused at the cosmetics and hair care and
grabbed a couple cans of hair spray dropping them in the duffle bag.
"No I was thinking more along the lines of something USABLE." He said,
eyeing the items.
Graves chuckled softly as he followed. "Ahh... usuable crap.
That had better be for flamable purposes.. if you start doing your
hair.. i'll have to hurt you..." he said with a grin, eyeng the hair
spray. "Lighters are at the front by the tills... saw them as we came
in... anything you want me to grab, or can I just follow along behind
and enjoy the view?"
"Oh you can get away with following me around." Saffron said,
before grabbing a couple bottles of rubbing alchohol. He did grab a
pack of hair ties and pulled one off, pausing to run his hands through
his hair to pull it back out of his eyes. "Just figure we could use a
little more fire power if we needed it. Best to be prepared..."
He snorted softly then snatched one of the ties and pulled his
own hair back. He usually wore it down to cover the ears, but in this
case, it was best to be able to see. "Check seasonal... bet they have
those bug torches and shit like that over there.. you might be inspired
by some of it.." he added with a smirk.
"Probably..." Saffron said thoughtfully, a touch absentminded
while eyeing some cleaning supplies. Deciding against it, he went to
the next couple of isles adding things to the duffle bag here and
there.
Graves followed along behind, sometimes eyeing the things that
went into the bag, but mostly his attention was split between watching
Saffron and watching the windows at the front of the store. He could
still feel the creatures milling around aimlessly outside... and he
could still feel that cold chill the stretched between the two of them.
The creatures still felt wrong and the longer he could feel them the
more uncomfortable it made him. The chill between Saffron and himself
though just felt more and more comfortable...
Saffron eyed a few more things, then finally headed for the
front, grabbing a dozen lighters in various sizes, and balls of sting,
casting a glance out the windows. He paused at a till, dropping the bag
on the counter, and began sorting through it, with one ear on the
zombies, he felt incredibly calm, not that he couldn't in extreme
situations but at the moment he was VERY calm.
Matt leaned on the counter and watched him. "Saff... they're dead... you can't pay dead people."
Saffron snickered, before begining to adjust the strap of the
bag. "If there's anything else you want to add, better do so now." He
replied, watching the zombies as he adjusted the strap.
Matt snorted and grabbed a couple more bottles of water.
"Hungry? Aside from candy and chocolate.. there are cookies..." he
called from the entrance to the food aisle , then grabbed a couple
prewrapped butter tarts.
Sitting the full bag on the counter, Saffron hopped up to sit
on the end of it. "Lets take a moment, I wanna watch these things a
bit...see what I can learn."
Matt grabbed a couple more butter tarts and a pack of cookies
before joining Saffron. He tossed the items in the bag, saving out a
couple butter tarts. He offered one to Saffron as he leaned back beside
him, then after ripping open the package, slipped an arm around behind
the death elemental as he ate.
Saffron opened a pack and sat there eating while watching the
zombies mull around. "I've only heard of a virus doing this once
before..." He said. "Heard of anything like this?"
Matt shrugged. "Rumours... haven't seen it myself and didn't
put much credit to them considering who i heard it from.." he said as
he savored the last of his tart and eyed the others, considering
whether or not to have another. "There was one I heard form a reliabel
source that might be linked to this... earlier attempt or something..."
he said then gave in and snatched another tart. "But that was some sort
of hypno/ mind control thing that wound up killing the person within a
couple days..."
"mm, well one hears about mind control stuff every once in
awhile...think Sands usually keeps better tabs on that kind of thing."
Saffron said absently. "What I heard had to do with down south, some
where in Mexico. Claimed the whole town was gone in two days some
remote place...and they had to call in the military..."
Graves snorted again. "If thats the case.. I suggest we take
the phone back to the others and haul ass out of town before we call
anyone... I don't know about you but I don't want to be sitting at
ground zero when they decide to wipe the place clean..." he said,
popping the last of his second butter tart in his mouth.
"Wasn't a very reliable source, but then I have one question...
how did they call the military if no survivors got out of the town?"
Saffron pointed out.
"You got it backwards, Saff... no survivors got out of town
BECAUSE they called in the military..." Graves said simply and shoved
the bag closed so he wouldn't be tempted by any more tarts. They
weren't as good as some... especailly home made ones, but hey... in a
pinch..
Saffron shook his head slightly and didn't want to explain
himself right now. He turned his eyes back to the zombies to watch and
think. Although it was kind of just nice to sit here.
Graves gave a soft snort after a moment then gave Saffron's hip
a pat before shoving himself forward away from the counter. "We going?"
he asked simply. "We stay here much longer and being close to you is
going to start getting to me again... might not get away with just a
kiss this time.." he added with a smirk.
"Yeah." Saffron hoped down and grabbed the bag, he fixed the
strap for it to rest over his back like a gunny sake. "Lets see if
Dav's directions were right or if we're on a wild goose chase..." He
headed for the door.
Graves caught hold of his arm and pulled him around for a quick
kiss then smirked and gave his rear end a slight smack. "Couldn't
resist... let's go... same as before.. take it slow and see how far we
get before they notice us?"
"I'm voting for see how far we can get with out being
noticed..." Saffron said pausing at the door, glancing around the
exiting, and turning left, heading between the buildings and in the
direction Dav had said to go. Would have been better to have a bit more
directions but he figured they could deal.
Graves suddenly grabbed his shoulder, pulling him to a stop.
"Hang on..." he said softly. "you said something about a cemetary,
right.. on the way or there...?"
"She didn't specify, but I'm hoping it's on the way, and we can
bi pass it." Saffron replied, "I've got a bad feeling about things
around it..."
"No..." Graves said softly. "that's not what I meant.. well..
the way I'm feeling right now, probably a good idea to bipass it,
but...here's the thing.." he said, keeping an eye on the creatures
around them. "In any town, the largest concentration of dead.. is the
local cemetary... and if that's in the direction we're heading... then
why am I picking up a really big 'dead' zone over 'that' way?" he
asked, pointing off to the right.
Saffron raised an eyebrow and glanced toward the right.
"Something like that never means anything good, you know that? Which
leaves us with two choices...Ignore it and keep going...or look into
it." He gave him a look
Graves snorted. "Well.. considering I'm not sure what this
power surge between us is going to raise in a cemetary.. a known
element for me.. Do you really want to risk testing this out in an
unknown element?" he asked, his own gaze fixed on the direction he'd
pointed out.
"Not really, so we'll flag it for now and keep going..."Saffron
said, eyeing him then gave a soft snort and rolled his eyes, "unless
you have a major curosity problem like I tend to have and can't brush
it off for now..."
Matt gave a soft "Hmmm..." his eyes still focused in the
distance. "Curiosity killed the cat...." he said softly then snorted
and tore his gaze back to Saffron. "Hey.. you're the leader of this
little expedition, Azreal... you pick. Dead things I can handle...
usually... sometimes just takes a bigger sacrifice to put them down is
all... not sure I care to lose that much blood..." he ended with a soft
mutter..
Saffron paused, considering and gave Matt a dark look for the
leader line. He tried to consider the best course of action but shook
his head. "Problem being with that, is I've always done things by
instinct and intutition...Instinct is telling me to get to the salitite
phone...Intutition is telling me to go right..." He'd do it too, if it
was just himself...
"Well... we could go to the phone first then check that out on
the way back to the office..." Graves said, then smirked softly and
shrugged. "Or we can be completely irresponsible and go satisfy our
curiosity..."
Saffron snorted softly. "Yeah..that's a hard choice..." He
muttered, looking up at the stars, trying to decide. He frowned
slightly, realizing some time had passed since they left the office, by
the track of the stars. "I think it'd be best to...fuck...fuck it." He
turned right. "My curisity is my down fall." He said with a shrug.
Graves chuckled. "Fuck responsibility... I usually do anyhow.."
he said softly and started towards the 'deadzone', one eye going back
to the creatures. "Any theories on what we might find?"
"Well if these were normal zombies, I'd say a hell hole. These
things...I don't know...maybe there's a factory or somethin'... really,
out of all the shit I've seen in all my years, I've come to live by one
rule. Always expect the unexpected..." Saffron said, shaking his head.
Graves snorted. "A factory?" he snorted again. "Babe... it was
an accident at the offices that set this off, remember..." he raised an
eyebrow."Although.. they got the sample from somewhere..and they did
say it took wiped out the town incredibley fast... a second infection
site does make sense..."
"See...Crazy shit can happen." Saffron said in reply with a
slight smirk, slipping into an alley out of sight of the zombies and
still heading toward the zone. "I've had the pleasure of knowing at
least ONE mad scientist."
Graves snorted again. "Why doesn't that surprise me?" he said
softly. "Although the terms 'pleasure' and 'mad scientist' don't seem
to fit very well together under most conditions.." he added. "Keep an
eye out to your left up ahead... there a couple creatures acting odd...
well... they have a slightly different feel to them then ones ignoring
us at the moment, lets put it that way.."
"Did I say pleasure?" Saffron replied. "Damn...my bad..." He
said over the mad scientist thing, and glanced to the the left. He felt
a fleeting brush of life and shivered. "Yeah, that's cause they're
eating..." He said, guessing right, after taking a peek.
Graves cocked an eyebrow then frowned. "Hmm.... alright.. i'll
make a mental note of that... " he shook his head slightly as he
continued. "Man.. these things are fucked up...I mean, hey ..
-Virus-zombies gotta eat too, right, but I mean... eww." he snorted and
thought of the legnds and myths that had zombies being flesh-eaters. In
truth, it did happen, but only rarely and under certain conditions..
the fact that these things fell under the flesh-eating category was not
good news..
"You know...there's a type of low level demon, that does
that..." Saffron said thoughtfully. "And Dav did say something about
thinking the virus had magic in it..." He paused suddenly, looking
aggravated. "Oh no...no...ah fuck...this would be EXACTLY the shit he'd
be interested in..." He said with a sigh.
Graves raised an eyebrow and paused in his knife flipping.
"Sounds like you have a likely suspect in mind..." he said, turning to
watch one of the creatures wander past. "Do tell..."
Saffron sighed and turned his neck, popping it, before saying.
"My former....employer." Saffron answered. "Mr. LiVed...him and his
fuckin' Illuminatie...this is the kind of shit he'd be into
researching..." Saffron said.
"LiVed...." Graves said softly. "I know that name..." he
snapped his fingers. " Also goes by DeVilmount, right?" he asked then
snorted. "Yeah.. heard of him..." he glanced around at the creatures
and snorted again. "Lovely...."
"Yeah, DeVilmount, LiVed, depends on which hemosphere your
in..." Saffron replied. "Real nut job...but real powerful." He added
with a sigh, before starting forward again, "The scar on my back, that
my wings cover, that was from him."
"Oh really... " Graves said softly, his voice going cold. "In
that case.. I'll look forward to meeting him.." he added, slipping his
free hand over to rub his fingers lightly over Saffron's back beneath
the duffel bag. "I think we're almost there... about a block farther by
the feel of it.."
"Oh well, it might have been well earned, no one else had been
brave enough to spit in his face...then some sixteen year old brat,
who'd had a very bad night...He got mad, started yelling, and I just
turned around and walked away. Course I didn't get more then five feet,
but hey..." Saffron replied softly with a shrug, watching as the mass
of zombies seen started getting bigger.
"Sixteen?" Graves repeated softly, then slid his hand over
Saffron's back to slip around his side and pull him closer as he
stepped in front. He stood there for a moment blocking him so he had to
stop walking. "Sixteen... and you were 'working' for LiVed... and you
pissed him off bad enough he did that..." he shook his head softly.
"Fuck... I'll turn him into a pet zombie for you.."
Saffron looked at him. "I was working for LiVed when I was
fourteen. If you wanna be techincal about it. It wasn't work, it was
servitude. LiVed was the one who took me when I was nine, put me in
Hell for four years so my abilites would advance quickly and then made
me his pet assassin."
"Yeah.. pet zombie... after a really fucking painful death..."
Graves amended. "Nine years old in Hell.. and an assasin at fourteen...
fuck..." he said softly, then shook his head softly and stepped aside,
his hand going back to stroking the scar on Saffrons back as they
walked.
"Well I try not to dwell on it so much. Makes for interesting
experiences..." Saffron said with a weary smirk. "All that time in Hell
and didn't know my little brother was there too, in Abadon's realm."
The zombies were more, but still didn't seem to notice them.
Graves glanced over at him quickly then went back to watching
the creatures. "Fuck.." he said again. "Why didn't you use your
abilites and kill the fucker?" he asked.
Saffron didn't answer right away. "Because...he had ways of
keeping me under his control." He said simply. He paused in the shadows
against a building, not looking at him.
Graves came to a stop beside him and turned his back on the
creatures. He slid the knife back into its sheath and took Saffron's
chin in his hand to raise his face to look him in the eye. After a
moment he cursed. "Fuck... he didn't..." he said softly. "I'll fucking
skin him alive...."
"You'll never get close to him." Saffron said simply in reply,
a bitter tone to his voice. He closed his eyes a moment, trying to bite
back the unwanted emotion with these thoughts and took a deep breath,
holding it.
Graves slid his arms around the smaller man and leaned into
kiss him softly. "Babe.. I swear I'll find a way to make the fucker
suffer for ever laying a hand on you.." he said softly.
Saffron sighed behind the kiss. "We can talk about this later."
He said softly, looking at him. "We should keep moving." This was not
something he liked to discuss. The only other person to get this much
out of him was Lex.
Graves sighed but smirked softly. "Sure... if you want to. But
be warned, hearing about some sick shit hurting you will only piss me
off and make me want to hurt him..." he ran a finger along Saffron's
check softly, listening to the creatures milling around them. "Your
right... let's get moving.."
Saffron gave a weary smirk. "Well other then Major Right, but
some one already has dibs on his last moments...and well, his dibs are
better. Wont be able to kill him. There's just LiVed... Eckhart's mine."
Graves snorted as they resumed walking. "Hey.. I can deal with
that... you change your mind and want some help with this Eckhart guy,
I'm in. I'll take this LiVed shit and make sure he hurts for hurting
you." he said, drawing his knife again. After a moment he glanced at
Saffron. "You want me to take the bag? I got my knife and a gun.. you
got a sword.."
"Echkart and I faced off three times, and all three times he
nearly killed me by the time I could get away." Saffron said, shaking
his head ruefully. "But some one needs to kill the fucker, he's been
alive WAY to long." He was rambling, but it took his mind off LiVed for
the moment. He considered for a moment, then removed the bag from his
back. But his arm scrapped up against the wall and he muttered a curse,
as a few drops of blood welled up on his arm, then he glanced up
quickly at the zombies. Even a few drops, had their attention.
Graves groaned softly. "Fuck.. and in the middle of fucking no
mans land too.. I'd say run, but these guys are too fast and too
many..." he said, pressing Saffron back with his free hand. "Guess
we'll see just how much of a sacrifice I'll need to deal with these
guys...." he added, shrugging off his jacket and letting it fall at his
feet as he lay his knife against the bare skin of his arm. "I really
hate fucking doing this..." he muttered, wondering if he should wait
for the first creature to take a step towards them.. maybe they
wouldn't break through the camoflage he'd thrown around them despite
the blood..
Saffron eyed the scrape and ran his hand over the hip of his
jeans, wiping off the little blood, the zombies were staring right in
their direction. He watched them, they seemed to still themselves. He
looked at Matt over the sacrifice statement and raised an eyebrow. "Let
me try something first..." He said softly, before looking back at the
zombies. He took a deep breath, stilling himself. His eyes bled
completely black and a black mist was starting to rise at his feet,
curling upward. Then the mist began bleeding outward some as it grew
higher and it began to solidify,
Graves kept the knife still against his skin as he kept track
of the creatures and watched the strange mist rise. "Thanks.. hope it
works... I hate bleeding. No problem making others bleed..." he said
with a soft smirk. "Blood is power... best weapon and tool against the
undead...depending on how its used. Mommy dearest was a blood witch...
so I have her to thank for that bit of knowledge.."
"Yeah, I know that all to well." Saffron muttered softly, his
concentration on the mist. It rose higher and was slowly becoming more
solid, a wall almost. As it became more solid, little pairs of yellow
eyes could be seen blinking amung the mist. The zombies began shuffling
forward, the scent of blood still drawing them, Saffron glanced at his
arm, it was still beading up. He put his focus back on the mist as it
rose higher. He could hear the chatter of the little creatures that
made it up and smirked slightly. Then a zombie lunged at the wall,
trying to break it. There was high picked shriek and the mist swallowed
the zombie. When moved past it, a dead zombie was lying on the ground
and the mist swirled, bigger then it was before.
Graves smirked and let the knife drop away from his skin as he
watched the wall. He glanced at Saffron's arm and moved behind him,
picking up the duffel and slinging it over his neck and shoulder as he
did to let it hang down his back. That done, he lay his hand over the
scrape and smiled softly at the energy flow between them.
The zombies seemed wary of the wall at the moment. Which was
what Saffron wanted. With a nudge to Matt, he started walking again,
the wall of mist slowly following, one or two little creatures jumping
around from the mist and hissing at the zombies. Normally he wouldn't
be able to hold the wall for very long, he didn't know now with the
power surge he was feeling.
Graves stayed at his side, his arm moving to slip around his
waist and keep the physical contact. He knew form experience the charge
he got from touching or being touched by the death elemental and hoped
that by keeping in touch he could help boost his strength long enough
for them to get to wherever they were going. "Not much farther..." he
said softly. "Nice trick, by the way. Remind me never to get on your
bad side..."
Saffron smirked wickedly. "No, getting on my bad side would be
bad for your health." He said softly. "I've got more tricks then just
these little guys." One of the little black shadow creatures, bounced
out of the mist and scrambled up to sit on Saffron's other shoulder.
"They don't have a name, but they're useful." He said, They slipped
through an alley and around a corner and Saffron froze. Even the
creature on his shoulder hissed. There was a big collection of Zombies,
milling around outside a small office building, but it that wasn't what
had his attention. He was picking up a feeling from the building he
hadn't dealt with since Hell and the few times Saffron had been sent
down to LiVed's deepest dungeons in the Black Court, a strong intense
feeling of death, but also evil.
Graves had been eyeing the little creature perched on Saffrons
shoulder with a soft smirk when Saffron came to a sudden stop. He
followed his gaze and raised an eyebrow before opening his senses to
see what had caused the reaction... and swore, slamming his shields
back down. "Fuck..." he said softly. "*that* doesn't feel good... I am
not going in there without a town or two worth of MY zombies to cover
my ass... or at least three of Kay's people... or Kay.."
"I know what it is, but it doesn't have a name." Saffron said,
pulling back on the wall, covering them. "It also confirms LiVed has
something to do with this...it's his...pet. It can control the dead and
it feeds on souls..." And it was one of the few things that could scare
the hell out of Saffron. "And that's just the basics..."
Graves felt a shudder crawl though him and he tightened his
hold on Saffron. "Fuck.... I've only come across three things that
creep me out.. all three of them today... you.. the 'feel' of those
things in my head... and THAT..." he said softly, nodding towards the
building. "I vote we go find that phone and call in a shit load of back
up... the military bombing the shit out this place is starting to sound
a lot better to me..."
"Phone it is." Saffron agreed, starting to turn, pulling the
mist with them, when the sound of a car approaching stopped him and he
pulled further against the wall. A black car appeared and pulled to a
stop, beside the building. The zombies took no notice. And if Saffron
had needed any further proof, he got it as LiVed emerged from the back
of the car.
Graves felt Saffron tense as the guy emerged form the car. He
leaned closer and whispered in his ear. "Friend of yours, babe?" he
asked softly, his eyes staying on the guy as he walked to the building.
"Please tell me thats the guy i get to hurt... aww fuck... but we were
leaving to call in better back up..." he muttered softly.
Saffron forced himself to turn from LiVed as the man
disappeared into the building. "That's LiVed." He said softly. He
glanced back momentarily as another car door closed and Right stood
glaring at the zombies. Some how, Saffron wasn't surprised. He turned
away from the sight completely before it got to be to much. "Right,
lets go make that call." He said, trying to keep from sounding to tense
and started in the direction, the mist still hiding them in the shadows.
Graves caught hold of him and pulled him around to face him.
"Hold on, babe... not so fast." he said softly. "Yeah, we need to get
to the phone and let Kay know what's going down and get some major back
up in here..." he said, glancing over his shoulder. "And I really don't
like the idea of going in there... but I don't like the idea of that
bastard being so close and not doijng anything about it, either..."
"Yes, well," Saffron shook his head slightly. "Going in there
with that...pet of his...and Right standing right there..." He frowned
at himself, did he actually sound scared, gods...He looked back at the
car and the building, Right looking uncomfortable waiting outside, but
didn't look any bit eager to go inside.
Graves heard the tone in his voice and caught his chin in his
fingers and tilted his face up for a kiss. "So... we'll go for the
phone now and decide later.. or.. you can go for the phone and I'll see
what I can do with these things and our 'friends'...."
Saffron sighed from the kiss and looked at him. "Probably be
best if we both go for the phone and decide after the call." He said as
calmly as he could.
Graves smirked softly. "Alright... I'll behave myself and walk
away this time. But sooner or later.. he's mine, Saff... he'll pay for
hurting you..." he said then stole another quick kiss before taking his
hand and heading towards the second strongest dead zone.. this one with
the familiar feel of a graveyard.
The trek to the bunker was rather untroubled, which of course,
troubled Saffron. Even passing the outer most edge of the graveyard to
get there was with done little incident. The lock at the bunker door
had to be picked, but they got in. The room where the satilte phone
was, was also a spare armory, with enough guns for a small army.
Saffron snorted, seeing the guns. "One would think they'd kept this
place closer." He said, before moving over to the satlite phone to make
the call.
Graves leaned against the wall and smirked. "It was... the
building they have now they just moved into..." he jerked a thumb over
his shoulder. "Until a few days ago the old place next door was their
base...least I think it was that one... it was one of these anyhow.
Yeah... it was that one... had to stop in on my way through a month
ago. They were still outfitting the new place..."
"Yes, well, one of the first things they should have moved was
back up weapons..." Saffron said, then swore. The phone, did not work.
At all. He banged the receiver on the table. "Should have charged the
fucking batteries!" He snapped, before flopping in the chair next to
the table. "Phone's dead." He announced calmly. "Battery's been sucked
dry."
Graves snorted. "Why am I not surprised?" he asked just as
calmly. "So... plan b or c? Plan b has us finding a working car and
getting out of town and to the nearest working phone... we never
thought to check the ones at the stores, but i have a feeling the
entire towns down...this isn't just an outbreak.. this was planned." he
dropped the duffel bag to the floor and stretched before crossing his
arms. "And plan c has us going back to the building and trying to
handle this on our own... don't have big hopes for plan c, actually..."
Saffron leaned back in the chair, taking the elastic out of his
hair, tossing that on the table, and running his hands through his
hair. "Ya know, I skipped out on Boston to get AWAY from this
shit...and all the other shit...needed a vacation...figured I'd visit a
couple friends then I don't know...go down to Mexico or something." He
muttered with a frustrated sigh, resting his hands over his eyes.
Graves pushed himself away form the wall and went to crouch in
front of his chair. "Fine.. then let's do that. Let's grab a car and
get the fuck out of here. We stop at the closest town over or the first
house we pass with living people in it and call Kay and her people and
let them deal with it.. they can look after my car for me too." he laid
his hands on Saffrons knees and looked at him . "We make our phone call
and get the fuck out of here.. leave it to someone else to deal with.."
Saffron snorted softly and shook his head slightly before
moving his hands to look at Graves. "You may be able to do something
like that, but I've got this terrible concious problem...I'd feel
guilty." He muttered, before sighing. Having seen LiVed again after all
this time, had put Saffron on the edge.
Graves smirked softly. "Fine.. then we haul ass out of town and
call for back up, then wait for them. Once we're done here THEN we run
away to Mexico...." he added with a smirk.
Saffron snorted softly then sighed, before shifting in the
chair. "This wouldn't really be a problem if I could open a shadow
portal farther then five miles."
Graves snorted then grinned. "You haven't tried since we hooked
up..." he suggested coyly. "Look at the other shit we can do boosting
eachothers powers..."
Saffron paused, considering. "I don't know...my restriction on
range has more to do with a curse, then anything else." He said. "Could
give it a try."
Graves raised an eyebrow. "A curse? Asshole have anything to do
with that?" he asked, jerking his thumb over his shoulder in the
general direction of LiVed...
"Of course...used to be that I couldn't open one at all, under
him, unless he'd given me premission. And then he always knew where I
was going." Saffron said simply, rolling his neck, hearing it pop in a
place or two.
Graves watched him for a moment. "You know... some believe a
curse is a wound on your soul... and wounds can be healed..." he
smirked softly. "Especially in our case..." he shrugged. "I can't do
magic.. well.. just my own special brand... but what we have.. feels
like it, so.."
Saffron looked at him, having leaned forward some, his hair
falling in his face. "IF that be the case, the curse and hold LiVed has
on me is a deep wound," He said softly, simply.
Graves reached up and slipped his hands through Saffron's hair
on either side of his head and leaned closer. "Yeah... so it'll
probably take more then a kiss to heal..." he said softly. "Something
to look into when we have more time...."
Saffron felt a shiver run through him, at the feel of his hands
in his hair, and raised his eyes to look at him. "If we get that time."
He muttered softly. He sighed deeply. "Ignore me in this mood, Matt.
Seeing LiVed after all this time...kinda has me on the edge."
Graves smirked softly. "Don't see me complaining." he snorted
softly. "fuck.. can't see me ignoring you, either." He drew a deep
breath and glanced back the way they'd come. "So... we go find a car
and get to a phone and wait for backup... Or we get as far as we can
and give that portal trick of yours a shot... or we go back and tackle
the problem of LiVed personally..."
Saffron was quiet for a long moment, trying to decide. "Well,
might as well find a working car..." He said softly. "I at least owe it
to Eire to let him know where Right is."
Graves grinned as he stood up. "Well.. we know where there's
one for sure... and it would seriously piss them off if we took it." he
said with a chuckle. "But that would let them know we were here, so I
guess we'll have to find our wheels elsewhere."
"Don't tempt me. That distance is rather easy to open a shadow
portal." Saffron replied, grabbing the elastic off the table and
braiding his hair back. With a sigh he finally stood, stretching. He'd
been running a little to long with out sleep lately, and all this
dodging zombies was starting to tire him.
Graves smirked devilishly as he stepped close, pressing Saffron
back against the table. "Trouble resisting temptation, hmm? I'll have
to remember that... I could steal that car... they don;t know me. but
you ...I'm willing to bet they'd have ways of knowing you were
around... don;t care to tip them off..."
Saffron leaned back against the table slightly. "Yes well, I
can resist any thing but temptation." He replied softly. "And yes, they
would know when I was around, they'd love another chance to get their
hands on me too, I imagine. I seem to be slipping through LiVed's
fingers alot as of late."
Graves smirked more and leaned closer, brushing his lips
against Saffron's ear as he spoke. "You won;t be slipping through
mine." he said softly before kissing his neck. "Come on... let's get
moving." he said, shoving hismself away and snatching the duffel bag
off the floor.
Saffron shook his head slightly with a faint smirk. He took a
moment to riffle around the drawers of the desk and pocketed a pocket
knife. Never know when that'd come in handy. "You know what this place
needs? A used car lot..." Saffron mused cynically while looking through
the rest of the drawers.
"Babe... the entire town is a fucking used car lot... and shit,
man... why settle for used when you can go new?" he snorted as he
settled the bag across his shoulder. "We'll walk up one side of the
street and check as we go. Unless you'd rather look for a lot...?"
Saffron opened the last drawer, shifting through it and found a
cigarette box, which he opened curiously, only to give a soft laugh at
finding a cigarette and a joint. "Some one's been smoking on the
job..." He muttered, before dropping the box back in the drawer and
looking up. "I told you I had a terrible curosity problem." He said
innocently. "So I take it then you know how to hot wire a car too?”
Graves just grinned and spread his arms. "Come on... look at
me... do I look like someone who knows how to hotwire a car?" he said ,
his eyes sparkling. "Ready yet?"
"Hmph." Saffron replied, biting back the smirk, moving toward
the door. He paused next to Graves and looked him over. "I know some
who would say you look like a regular convict." He said. "But that's
okay, cause if ya don't, I do." He said with a smirk.
Matt laughed softly. "Convict?! I've been told I look like a
thug, a punk, and a criminal... but I don't think i've been told I look
like a convict before.. and fuck, of COURSE I know how to hotwire..
I've been on my own since I was a kid... how the hell do you think I
survived to become the badass I am today?" he said with a smirk and
shoved open the door after making a quick check to make sure no
creatures were close by.
Saffron raised an eyebrow, following him. "How old were you
when you ended up on your own?" He asked, glancing around the street.
Graves snorted. "Got kicked out of the family when I was..
hmm.. fuck... around ten I think.. yeah... cause my aunt gave my a
charm for my birthday..." he said then shrugged. "Anyhow... got tossed
around some foster homes, but none cared to put up with me for long..
longest was about a week and a half I think. Nope.. sorry...made it a
whole two weeks at the one..." He snorted and shrugged again. Put up
with it for a couple years then took off."
"Lonely way to grow up....sounds familiar." Saffron muttered,
mostly to himself. He'd only had two people in Hell that gave a damn
about him...Arcanina and it had seemed Lord Chaos didn't mind a ten
year old Azreal hanging around from time to time, when Saffron had been
in that area of Hell. Other then that, the rest of the time had been
spent alone, trying to stay alive. He still had nightmares about Hell
some times.
"Yeah... kinda sucked... but .. ya get through it." Graves said
softly. "What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger, right? ain't that
what they say?" he said softly as he headed for likely looking
neighborhood.
Saffron gave a bitter laugh. "No, normally what tries to kill
you, only comes back to try again." He said softly in reply. "Which
seems to be the grand theme of my life some times...not half as bad as
my little brother, but..."
Graves snorted softly, then reached back to brush his fingers
over Saffron's wrist before he took hold of his hand. He snorted softly
at himself for doing so.. he'd never been one for hand holding...
but...it just felt good.. right... "Yeah... never put too much faith in
that theory myself..." he said softly, coming to a stop in the middle
of the road as the street opened up onto a residential neighborhood
that catered to a more 'upper class' then the previous streets had
held. "Ooo .. look at all the pretty toys..." he said with a half
sneer. "Anything catch your fancy?"
Saffron managed to shake himself from the thoughts he'd been
distracted with, when he took his hand, to look up and eye the
selection that was visable. "You know the only problem with these, is
they all look like cop cars...if we're going to steal a car...lets make
sure it's a..." He trailed off, looking to his left. It was under a car
cover, but one tail light was visable and he knew just what kind of car
it was. He let go Graves' hand, heading over, and grabbed a hold of the
car cover, pulling off. "Now that's a car." He said, as the 67 GTO was
revealed.
Graves chuckled. "Yes.. and thanks to the cover, the alarm
isn't armed. All the better. Care to do the honors? As an upstanding
citzen and all, you probably don't get to do ths very often..."
Saffron opened the driver's side door and gave a laugh. "Why?"
He asked, flipping the sunvisor down and holding up a spare key. "They
made it easy this time." He said with a wicked smirk. "I'm driving." He
added.
Graves snorted as he headed for the other door. "I love
idiots... turn off the alarm so they can cover it.. and then leave it
unlocked with the keys in it..." he muttered softly as he slid inside,
tossing the duffel onto the floor.
"Oh, of course. But it does make it easier for us." Saffron
said, before making sure the cover was out of the way, checked the tail
lights to make sure they werent' broken, then the headlights, before
getting in on the driver's side and slipping the key in. He started the
engine and smirked wickedly at the smooth sound. He gave Graves a grin,
before suddenly pulling out of the drive way and putting the car into
drive at the same time, the tires spinning and leaving black marks.
Graves snorted, his eyes sparling. "Show off." He leaned back against the seat. "Lets get out of town... next town over maybe.."
Saffron snickered, heading toward the towns border. "Believe it
or not, my little brother taught me how to do that." He said, shaking
his head slightly as he drove. "I can hot wire just about any make or
model of car. My brother street races them."
Graves raised an eyebrow. "Nice... he any good?" he asked, his
attention going to the man beside him rather then their surroundings.
"And how did you NOT get into it when he did?"
"Oh I never said I didn't race...just not into it as much as
Lex is...and actually, the little brat is pretty good. Drives a 65
Shelby Mustang...that's his baby. A friend of his got him started
racing. Pretty damn good, considering he's only been driving
for...three years...something like that." Saffron said, turning a
corner and heading out of town.
Graves chuckled softly. "How young is this little brother of
yours? Three years behind the wheel.. assuming you mean 'legally'
behind the wheel would put him nineteen?"
"He's twenty three. No...he didn't get out of Hell until he was
twenty. His...ex boyfriend taught him how to drive." Saffron said
simply.
Graves snorted after a moment. "The way you say 'ex' makes me envision a hired thug being sent after the guy... at the least.."
Saffron snorted. "We've thought about it, trust me...
Ravenscourt...the fucker's two steps away from getting me to send him
into the next life for good...if I could catch him. Lexine was fragile
enough when he got out of hell, Ravenscourt exploited that." Saffron
said, turning on to the highway again. Leaving the town behind, and the
feeling of LiVed being there, Saffron was calming down again.
Graves watched the play of emotion as Saffron spoke. "You don't
need to find him, really... you have something that belongs to him...
something personal...? I know a trick or two..." he said.
Saffron shook his head slightly, his speed was ten over the
speed limit, but he really doubted they'd run into any cops.
"Ravenscourt's already supposed to have been DEAD once... showed back
up a few months ago and sent Lex for a loop. "
Graves raised an eyebrow. "Supposed to be dead... or was dead?"
he asked. "I was thinking of just siccing a zombie on him. I can tune
one to him and it'll keep going until it either falls apart or finds
him.. but .. if he's already died..." he smirked softly. "That raises a
whole new range of opportunities..."
"I don't know...The way I understand it, he...sacrificed
himself at first for Lex... but was apparently locked in a void, or
something for two years, or something." Saffron said. They were
reaching a mile and half to two miles from the town, when Saffron let
all his guard down, which was a mistake. The voice broke into his
thoughts all at once, a voice he hadnt' heard in his head since he was
sixteen. LiVed was telling him to return. The pressure and surprise,
caught Saffron so off guard, he nearly went off the road, and had to
slam on the brakes.
Graves swore softly as he grabbed for the wheel with one hand
and for Saffron with the other. "Fuck! Saffron?! What the fuck...?!" he
said as they came to a stop in the middle of the road.
Saffron covered his eyes with the heel of his hands, pressing.
"Get the fuck out of my head..." He growled. Which was only answered
with a dark laugh and the promise now that LiVed had found Saffron
again, he wasn't getting away. Saffron groaned and felt what little
control of his emotions he had left slip. When he finally lowered his
hands, to stare out the windshield, they were wet.
Graves sat in silence for a moment watching then reached out
and brushed his fingers over Saffron's cheek. "Hey.. babe... I'm
here.." he said softly. "Take my strength if you can.. kick the fucker
out..."
Saffron didn't answer for a long moment, he could still hear
LiVed chuckling darkly, and felt a couple tears actually fall. He
closed his eyes slowly, trying to remember to breathe. The last time
he'd even shed a tear, he'd been seventeen. And it hadn't been since he
was nine or ten that he'd felt the intense need just to curl up. He
finally shook his head slightly, anwering Graves. "He already knows
where I'm at."
He sighed and shifted closer, slipping one hand behind
Saffron's head while the other caressed his face and turned him towards
him. "Doesn't matter. You're with me..." he said softly, brushing aside
a tear with his thumb. "You're mine now, babe... I won;t let him have
you."
Saffron swallowed hard, opening his eyes again to look at him.
"Some how, I don't think he cares, or is going to listen." He said
softly,
Graves snorted softly. "Like I care what he thinks?" he said
with a soft smirk. "You okay to drive? I could take over ...Or would
you rather pull over for a bit?" he said, his thumb stroking his face
tenderly. "I mean it, babe... I won;t let him hurt you again..."
Saffron sighed, shifted back and pulled over to the side of the
road, putting the car in park. He rubbed his eyes and realized part of
the problem was lack of sleep. "I think you better drive." Saffron said
softly.
Graves sighed softly and nodded before getting out of the car
and coming around to the drivers side. He opened the door and held out
a hand for Saffron, pulling the younger man form the car and into his
arms.
Saffron let him pull him out of the car and for a moment,
didn't move. He merely sighed deeply, closing his eyes a moment.
Depending on how far the next town was, maybe he could grab a nap.
With another sigh, Graves let go, giving hims a gentle push.
"go on.. get in." he said, waiting until he'd made it around to the
other side and got in before he took his own seat. With a soft snort he
adjusted the seat and mirrors, then pulled back onto the road.
Saffron leaned back against the passenger's seat, and stared
out the window for a moment, trying to collect himself and put his
guard back up, but LiVed kept slipping past the guard. He wondered how
long it would take LiVed to show up in person, or send Right after him,
and he curled up slightly in the seat, leaning his forehead against the
cool window.
Matt kept casting glances at Saffron as he drove. The energy
flow between them seemed almost faint and he wasn't sure whether it was
this LiVed's interferrence causing it.. or Saffron's withdrawl... He
sighed and drove a bit faster towards the faint glow of the next town.
"Lady..." he said softly to himself. "Please...don't let me loose
him...”
Saffron finally leaned his head back against the seat rest. "How far do you think to the next town?" He asked softly.
Graves sighed softly as he glanced over. "Not sure... can't be
much more then ten... maybe fifteen minutes. Closer if I ignore speed
limits... which I already am..." he answered. The part of him that
would have scoffed at the change in his attitude about everything was
completely lost in his worry over the young man beside him. He hadn't
cared about anyone in quite a while and even then, it hadn't come close
to how he felt now.
Saffron sighed softly, looking back out the window, he could
still feel LiVed, but it was growing fainter, as if LiVed was only
keeping a tab on where he was going, and didn't want to waste time
tormenting him mentally right now. Which Saffron was glad over. "I
don't know how much longer I can go with out sleep. I've been going to
long with out even so much as a nap." He said softly.
Graves smirked softly. "If this was my car, you could've
crawled in the back and gotten out the bedroll and had it made... as it
is you'll have to make due with the seat. You can have my jacket again
for a blanket if you want?" he said as he took a promising looking turn
off. "Go on.. get some sleep. I can call in our little find.."
"I should try to grab something of a nap..." Saffron muttered.
He found himself curling up in the seat already. He frowned slightly.
"I wonder if there's any chance to keep certian people in Boston from
knowing where I'm at...well depending who shows up as back up...I may
be able to convince them not to tell any one back there, they saw
me..."he muttered.
"Don't sweat it, babe.. I'll take care of it." Graves said
softly. "I can stop at a motel and grab a room.. you can hole up there
if you want.. no one has to know you're here at all..." he said simply.
"I'll figure out how to get my car outta there and running again, and
once this is done with, we'll go get your stuff."
"I just don't want certain people back in Boston knowing where
I am..." Saffron muttered sleepily, his eyes were already closed and he
used the last of his strength to lock out LiVed as much as he could. He
curled up in the corner of the seat, wrapping his arms around himself,
his head leaned between the window and the seat.
"Then they won't." Graves said simply. "I'll find a place you
can hide out until it's safe." he said again. "Sweet dreams." he added
with a soft smirk. He hadn't heard any one say that since he was a
little kid still with his family...
Saffron heard him and smiled faintly. "We'll see..." He said in
a whisper, letting himself fall into a nap for now. It didn't take long
for him to fall asleep, he ended up shifting, so instead of his head
leaning against the window, he ended up with it leaning against Graves'
shoulder.
