The Fae

The Fae are a very broad and expansive subject that would require way too many pages to cover completely.. plus Ruex is the true expert on this topic and she's not here at the moment... needless to say she'll make sure I edit in anything that I miss that needs to be here. Any questions you have about the fae or their realms that are not covered here, can be sent in for inclusion either on this page or in the F.A.Q.'s section. huntersprey@hotmail.com
With that in mind, I shall attempt to inform you as well as I can of the fae races.

The Fae in general all have very long life spans.. long enough that most consider them immortal. You will never see an 'old' fae, unless their physical age has been caused by some outside factor. All fae, no matter what race, are linked to their home realm Ter Nah Nog in a very deep and spiritual way. If they're gone from Ter Nah Nog for too long, they will begin to weaken. If they swear an oath on Terra  it means their death to break that vow.

All half fae have a physical and spiritual need to enter Ter Nah Nog at some point in their lives; for some this need is so strong it means their death to ignore it for too long. And all fae are faced with the power of Ter Nah Nog upon entering, whether it be for the first time or merely after a long absence; and must overcome the compulsion to remain in that realm.

All full blood fae have weaknesses to Iron and holy items,( from any and all religions formed from the Roman Catholic; eg; Christian, Protastent...) and holy ground. A collar or manacle made from iron can render a fae powerless, and they are unable to heal a wound caused by iron. Prolonged exposure to the metal can also make them deathly ill. They cannot enter holy ground and are effected much the same as demon kind  by crosses and other relics.

The Elven - Considered (at least by themselves) to be the cheif race among the fae, they consider their Court to be the 'capitol' of Ter Nah Nog and the Elven king refers to himself as King of Ter Nah Nog... whether or not this is true or not depends on whom you ask. Elves tend to be slim but not 'skinny'. They also tend to be fair in complexion and usually have a 'delicate' look about them. Elves age very slowly, and so you probably will never see an 'old' elf. Most elves don't gain a physical appearance of age past a 'mortal' thirty years or so. Pointed ears are indeed an elvish trait, as well as bright and intense eye colors and the occasional 'metalic' casting to skin or hair. Elves tend to be rather serious minded in nature and rather vain. A short-haired elf is another rarity, as is an elf in 'raggedy' clothing. Many elves prefer to remian n Ter Nah Nog, but there are a number who prefer to travel in the mortal realm, and some who even prefer to live there, under 'human' glamors and aliases. The higher class of elves are known to keep slaves form other races.

The Drow -  Also known as 'Dark Elves', the drow are a solitary race. They keep to themselves and  any alliances they may have with other races are kept tightly in line. They consider themselves superior to the other races, including the elves, and while 'trysts' are permitted, they rarely tolerate marriages or 'halfling' children, and those that do occur tend to do so outside of Ter Nah Nog in the mortal realms. The drow share the pointed ears and bright intense eyes of the elven. The Elves have been known to keep Drow slaves and even 'own' entire families, which only enhances the Drow's dislike of them.

The Faeries  - The Faeries are divided into two Courts - the Seelie and the UnSeelie - All Faeries, no matter with Court they're from, are extremely mischeivious and fun-loving, but some tend to have very volatile tempers. A faerie's freedom is essential to their life and wellbeing and their wings are an intense part of that feeling of freedom. Faeries fare very poorly in captivity and confinement, and rarely survive severe damage or loss of their wings.

The Seelie - The 'good' Faeries... the Seelie tend to keep their mischief to the non-lethal variety and avoid entanglements with the darker races such as the goblins, trolls and so forth... unless it's to cause them trouble. They tend to value life higher then their darker brethren and believe they have a much closer connection to Terra. The more lives a faerie takes, the darker their 'soul' becomes, until eventually they become 'UnSeelie. Their eyes tend to blends and swirls of bright or light colors, and while their ears are pointed, they're not as promenant as the elven. Faerie wings tend to vary from family to family, but all Seelie have bright, light colors about them.

The UnSeelie -  The 'dark' faeries don't particularly care if people suffer from their mischief. Most of them seem to prefer it actually. They prefer the company of like minded beings, such as the Phouka, and occasional Drow. Their eyes and wings are darker hues than the Seelie, and some of the older families have a black ring around the color of their eyes, or black markings on their wings. These are signs of a bloodline that has always been UnSeelie, rather than those who were born Seelie and changed. Some believe that a faerie is not 'born' an UnSeelie, that it's a choice one makes through their actions...

The Phouka - Considered one of the darker races, Phoukas are trouble loving shape shifters who's 'natural' form is that of a horse.

The Shades - Another race that prefers it's privacy. Shades are shape shifters who's 'natural' form is that of a wolf.

The Goblins - Goblins are a very violent race. They enjoy causing others pain and are 'talented' torturers. A large part of the Goblin Court is underground, with only a seemingly ramshackle 'town' above ground. They almost always have at least one prisoner in the center of 'town' for everyone to 'play' with. They have a particular 'fondness' for faerie captives or the more delicate looking of the elves.

A foot note in Fae mythology here...

The Trinity is a legendary fae triumvirate of sisters that the fae believe will be born should  the Seal becomes in serious danger.

There is always a living  'Tarien de Mela de Gurtha' .. translated is 'Princess of Life and Death', more commonly known as 'The Daughter of the Seal'.

On occasion, there is also a second Daughter born, 'Tarien de Templa Ondo' .. translated is 'Princess of Magic Stone'.. also known as ' the Oracle of the LifeStone'.

When the full trinity is needed, a third Daughter, the 'Tarien de Megil de Tinchor', the 'Princess of Sword and Shield', or ' the Oracle of the Seal and LifeStone.
